While our friends on the Eastern Seaboard were battening down the hatches in advance of “Superstorm” Sandy, we were trying to keep our Ez-Up from getting blown away by the rotors of the rescue helicopter taking its place on the tarmac – hardly anything to complain about when you consider the alternative. We were at the joint forces base in Los Alamitos for the annual Wings, Wheels & Rotors show and expo.
This open house-style, family event took place on the flight line at the Los Alamitos Army Airfield, the last remaining military airfield in the greater Los Angeles/Orange County area. On display were military aircraft, helicopters, old warbirds, public safety, first responder and military equipment, and about 400 classic cars, hot rods and custom rides. We had a great vantage point, with a huge C-17 in the background as the cars rolled in.
As always, many of the events we attend go to support good causes, and this show was no different. A portion of the proceeds went to support the JFTB Morale Welfare and Recreation funds to support the armed forces personnel on the base.
