Over 700 cars crossed the block at a frenetic pace over the 3-day Mecum Auction held in Southern California this weekend. Before I could even get in the doors at the Anaheim Convention Center, I could hear the auctioneer feverishly working the crowd for each hot rod, classic or custom ride that rolled out in front of him.

Wings, Wheels & Rotors

While our friends on the Eastern Seaboard were battening down the hatches in advance of “Superstorm” Sandy, we were trying to keep our Ez-Up from getting blown away by the rotors of the rescue helicopter taking its place on the tarmac – hardly anything to complain about when you consider the alternative. The show, which benefits local schools and youth activities, was a chance for some local car collectors to show off their rides.

Palos Verdes Concours d’Elegance

Classic cars come in all sorts of shapes and sizes…and price ranges. Some of the most valuable collector cars could be found this weekend on the cliffs of the Palos Verdes peninsula at the 20th Annual PV Concours d’Elegance. Held at Trump National Golf Club, the show featured some of the world’s finest automobiles and motorcycles; including a beautiful collection of Jaguars and Ferraris, Monte Carlo tribute rally cars, post-war European luxury automobiles and a fine display of American muscle.

Since 1974 the Thunderbirds of Southern California and the Earlybirds of Southern California have hosted the Pageant of the Thunderbird, open to all T-Birds from ’55 to ’05 – original, modified or custom.
